One-Step Sparring
One-step sparring utilizes
prearranged blocks, kicks
and strikes to defend
against an attackers punch.
These one-step sparring
combinations (required to
earn an advanced yellow belt
w/ blue tip) are designed
against a left handed
attacker. Students testing
for blue belts or higher are
required to be able to
defend against a right or
left handed attacker.
OUTSIDE
MIDDLE BLOCKS - USE LEFT ARM
1. Step
forward with left leg into a
left side stance (fighting
stance), left outside middle
block, left back hand
strike, right reverse punch,
left back hand strike.
2.
Step forward with left leg
into a left side stance
(fighting stance), left
outside middle block, left
elbow thrust, left elbow
thrust, left knife hand
strike.
SIDE KICK AND
SPINTHRUST KICK
3.
From a left fighting stance,
left skip-in side kick, left
back hand strike, right
reverse punch, left back
hand strike.
4.
From a right fighting
stance, left spin thrust
kick, left back hand strike,
right reverse punch, left
knife hand.
FRONT SNAP
KICKS
5.
Right front snap kick, step
forward into a right front
stance, double open hand
upper block, double knife
hand strike, grab collar and
left knee lift.
6.
Right front snap kick, step
forward into a right front
stance, double palm heel
strike (low), double palm
heel strike (high), left
grab behind neck, right
elbow strike to face.
UPPER BLOCK &
INSIDE MIDDLE BLOCK - USE
RIGHT ARM

Step forward with
right leg into a
right front
stance, right
upper block, left punch,
right punch, left palm heel
strike.
8.
Step forward with
right leg into a
right front
stance, right
inside middle block, left
punch, right punch, left
ridge hand strike.
PARRYS - STEP
TO THE RIGHT, USE LEFT KNIFE
HAND
9. Step to the right
into a straddle leg stance,
left knife hand strike to
the wrist (parry), grab
wrist, left front roundhouse
kick to the groin or
abdomen, step forward into a
left fighting stance, right
palmheel strike.
10. Step to the right
into a straddle leg stance,
left knife hand strike to
the wrist (parry), grab
wrist, left side kick to the
ribs or knee, step forward
into a left fighting stance,
right reverse punch.
DOUBLE KICKS
11. Right front snap kick,
left side kick, set down
forward into a left fighting
stance, left back hand
strike, right reverse punch,
left knife hand strike.
12. Right front snap kick,
right side kick (without
setting down), set down
forward into a right
fighting stance, right back
hand strike, left reverse
punch, right knife hand
